Conclusion
The Boxster is a SPORTS CAR, not a muscle car. And you should use it as a very, very
good everyday car as well. I always love "more power", but the Boxster is easily
pleasurable
enough as it is. It is
quite clear why Porsche have used the 2.5 litre engine, and not the 3.2, because with the
2.5 the car is arguably better than the 993. With the 3.2 there would be no argument, and
that would leave a commercial imbalance. Also, the 2.5 aims the car at the enthusiast,
discouraging the buyer who "just wants the fastest" (this, I believe, led to the
poor yuppie image of the 80's Porsches). If you want to smile and smile and smile again,
then get a Boxster (if you can!). It's the only car I've had that has grown on me as I own
it.
The 996 is a
Boxster with more power, more torque and a touch more refinement. No, the Boxster is a 996
with less power, no roof, more agility, and cheaper. No, I'll try again. Boxster:
screaming cheap sports. 996: Powerful, refined, expensive GT. Both awesome.
