Wind noise

Roof going down...Incredibly, not much to say here either. It's just like a hardtop car. The soft roof really is excellent (apparently the optional hard roof is noisier, but I can't confirm this for myself). The only intrusion into your quiet world is direct noise from other vehicles coming through the roof. This is peculiar at first, especially when something overtakes you, but then again that shouldn't happen too often, should it? If owning a soft top is putting you off because you feel it would be less civilised in the winter, then think again. This roof is no relative of something found on a Caterham or Midget.

With the roof down and the windows up, I have travelled hundreds of comfortable miles at 85-90 mph. Conversation is no problem with a slightly raised voice. Windows down is pretty windy over 60 mph, so I generally remove the rear perspex screen and go for the full effect. This also helps you hear the engine. In this setup on a winding country lane on a sunny day, you can have some tremendous fun!

Tyre noise

Always a problem with my Club Sport, and a slight problem with the 911, the Boxster is very quiet, especially since I'm comparing a convertible with two hardtops. The only time you really notice the tyres is when you drive alongside a wall and the sound reflects off the wall and goes through the (closed) roof.
