What you will need to do, is get your fingers wrapped in clingfilm, then run over the bodywork.
Any snags and lumps you feel are contamination - and a clay bar will likely be the only option for removal.
First wash should be with a good degreasant shampoo, such as a cheap washing up liquid - lemon or orange.
Make sure to really rinse the car thoroughly after this, then clay it, if it needs it after the test above.
Wash with a good car shampoo, then dry with a good large microfibre towel.
Apply your wax/sealant product, and buff to a gleaming shine.

As I've been impressed by the Bilt Hamber stuff recently, I'd advocate their wash and clay. The balm I've yet to use, but I'm convinced it's potentially THE best protection your car will have, reapplied at least once every 14-28 days.
With respect to robbo, and the many other detailers out there, I don't subscribe to the belief that the highly regarded and much hyped/talked about waxes/sealants last anywhere near the timeframes often quoted - hence why I'll always advocate a 2 week reapplication period.

Towel wise, you could opt for Aquatouch from The Polishing Company or Chemical Guys' big yellow one.
Sheepskin mitt - picked up a nice square one (as opposed to the rounded with thumb type) from Raceglaze - is a must have, and a chenile microfibre mitt (looks like green worms) for the wheels.
Auto Balm provides you with the applicator and material to buff with, although a good microfibre cloth such as the DF ones from The Polishing Company would be a better option.
