I made and fitted covers myself and used velcro dots to attach them.
The dots were about an inch diameter, but I cut them into "thirds" (roughly 120 degrees angle) and stuck one third in each corner.
They've been on for over 7000 miles now and are still good. No idea if they've been hit or not, though.
I take them off to clean them inside and out, and clean the glass lenses if need be.
I got the velcro as a pack of assorted shapes for about £1 in Lidl or Aldi.
