I've px/d three cars in the last twelve months,including my 2.2 ES,all to main dealers.My experiences have been that they all seem to come in with the same offer price.Those dealers not a franchise of the car I had, put the car on a dealers' website to get the offer price that they,themselves could move the car on for.
My room for manouvre has been in getting a discount off the car I was interested in,the issue in question being the cost to make the change.That is the figure I've always used with the salesman.
To get a picture of the figures involved,I'd go round/phoned round a number of dealers.Once I'd got a representative figure of the px value,visited the dealer with the car I wanted and negotiated.Once the dealer knew I was serious about buying,I've been able to get a very good deal.My purchases were S/H or pre-reg. which perhaps allows for more price bartering to take place
