OK, after some testing.

1) If you unlock the car and do not open any doors it relocks after approx 30 seconds (when the interior lights go off).

2) If you unlock the car and open a door, it does not relock

3) If you open the door, sit in the car and put the key in the ignition it will beep. I presume indefinatly (until the battery is flat), I let it go on for like a minute.

4) If you turn the key one step the same as 3 applies.

5) If you turn the key two steps (all the way) the beep stops.

You could have the key turned all the way and have the key turned all the way and have the radio on or do your pre-flight checklist.
