I'm interested to know if ride feels less hard on your 17" standard wheels. I'm a little nervous about getting 19" alloys for my car as the ride in an 'R' is already quite hard.
Sorry to keep asking lots of questions - hope you don't mind

Oh yes, I know, the Dale sweaters is a must for many tourists to buy, although they are quite expensive.
The ride feels quite a bit softer with the 17" standard wheels, but I'll have to give the winter tyres most of the credit for that. They are made from a softer compound rubber, and also they have larger tread block pattern.
When I changed from the 'normal' 17" standard (summer tyres over here) wheels to 18" in dim. 225/40 x 18", the difference was rather insignificant, IMO. I thought about whether I should go for the 19"s myself, but after given it a second thought, I decided to stick with the 18"s. There are three reasons for my choice; 1) cheaper, (just slightly and not the most important) 2) very easy to damage, (not much sidewalls left on tyres) 3) like you mentioned, the hard and bumpy ride, not very comfortable in the long run. Mind you, this is just my opinion for the non-R civic, the suspension, springs and brakes are totally different on the Type-R as you know, so it will behave quite different! It is hard for me to recommend you whether you should go for the 19"s, as long as the Type-R feels hard already. In the light of that I might have considered the 18" instead.
On the other hand; the Type-R looks damn good with 19" wheels fitted...

Oh, keep on asking questions, I don't mind at all, I'll try answering them as best as I can..
