Being a fairly new driver, I'm slightly curious to point out that not pressing the release button while using the handbrake during my driving test would actually have earnt me a nice big FAIL. I'm pretty sure the DVLA's reason behind this is (as someone pointed out) it supposedly wears the ratchet out and makes your handbrake less reliable.
Interesting fix, Honda!
