My 5 Series used to do it all the time, in the end I didn't bother using the hand brake as it made no difference whether it was on or off, but I like a few people have a routine for entering and leaving a car:

IN:

belt on, check handbrake and gear stick is in neutral, depress clutch, ignition (a bit simple but you get the idea)

OUT:

Ignition off, handbrake on, into gear (1 or R depending), belt off. (again simplified but you get the idea).

If someone told me it was my fault it had rolled I'd slug em', as I have said elsewhere, we are all old enough to be entrusted with this lump of metal that does over 100mph, do they think we can't work a hand brake???????
