With regards to the question about fuel consuption at idle, if one assumes that you are stationary then your fuel consuption figure is 0 (zero) mpg.
Zero miles travelled for a gallon of fuel.
However, if you're coasting down a big hill with your foot on the clutch and the engine idling then your fuel consumption will be very good indeed.
Don't make the same mistake I once did (in my younger days) and turn off your engine while cruising down a hill, you don't realise how much the brakes are assisted by the servo. Never made that mistake again!
In worst case you can even apply the steering lock.
