I am very close to signing up to contract hire a new 2.2 SE for three years. I will be getting a service deal along with it so I won't have to worry about extra costs over the monthly rate. What does worry me however is the constant problems I read about: flat batteries, suspect suspension knocking, all sorts of other things.

What I'm trying to find out is whether these cars are on the whole a reliable vehicle and is it that just bad news gets reported by users, or are there a sizeable number of quality issues which are far greater than most models. I need to be able to get in the car and drive it without wondering whether it will start today. If I don't get to work, I don't get paid, simple as that.

Have any users out there who have bought more recent models also experienced the same sorts of problems or do they seem to be more related to the cars built in the first year? Will the Civic be as reliable as my last two cars, one of which was French and never missed a beat in 75,000 miles!!
