I've owned two LPG cars. MINI and Omega V6, the conversion was worth it in the Omega but not in the MINI. However, LPG has got a lot more expensive recently and you're always at the mercy of tax increases.

Better to use the money to trade in for a diesel.

There's a LPG conversion for Diesels as well, has an amazing effect on performance. Its burnt with the diesel and boosts the power up to the equivalent petrol level. So if you have an old 1.9 TD it'll have similar performance as a 1.9 petrol turbo. Complicated and expensive though.
