Offcorse, When an engine is brand new, the sealing of the rings againt the cambers are not well bedded and only after a regular wearing of this rings would the engine not consume any oil. Same thing happened also with my 1200cc motobike.
The best way for a regular wear of this rings in once the engine warmed to normal is to accelerate hard but to to full rev. Fist 500 miles, up to 2500 rev for a Diesel, but from time to time accelerate hard up to 2500 revs, then next 500 miles, rev up to 3500 revs at same rate, and after 1000 miles, you can whop it up to 4500 revs, even at 5000 for perfect run-in, but remember, never stay at a high rev, take it high just the time for over-taking and let go after for cooling, it should be progressif but some how hard in order to finish the machinering of these rings. Hope you understood !o! (I'm french and studied mechanics)
