I think that is wise, though remember that all 'new' models have a few teething troubles (as some of us know all too well!)
On the auto/I-shift discussion, remember that conventional (torque converter + epicyclic gears) autos have evolved to the present (wonderfully good in the best cases) state over many years - and are still improving.
CVTs as used in the Jazz are now vastly better than early (Volvo and Daf Variomatic) system, though still really only suited to modest power handling.
The 'automated manual' whether it is DSG or I-shift is relatively young. It is bound to need a few 'generations' to get to a level of development similar to a conventional auto - during which time its shortcomings will be quite acceptable to some, and totally unacceptable to others(!) - just as conventional autos were through the 1960s and 1970s etc.
I think that most people now accept that conventional autos are pretty good, and its hardly possible to buy a 'luxury' car with a manual gearbox now.
