I have no complaints from people who have travelled in the back of my Type S GT.
The only thing I would say that going for the Type S GT might be a better idea, because of the small rear windows and general trim colour it is quite dark in the back. If you get the GT then you get the glass roof which makes travelling in the back a much lighter and nicer experience.
The main drawback with the 3 door Civic is that the front seats don't have a memory function, so they don't return to where they were when you slide the seat forward. Not a show-stopper unless you happen to be a driver who spends ages getting the seat in exactly the right position
