No, not in the least. There are no gaps at the hinges and the slider locks press the wire on the soft surface of the shelf.

I bought the slide locks from Bauhaus. Any such warehouse should sell them. Here's what a slide lock looks like:

Fixing was a bit tricky. The shelf is made of some substance like pressed and bonded wood dust, so it is weak for holding fine screw threads. There were 5 holes on each lock, and I used all of them, screwing not vertically through the holes but at varying angles, so the screw lengths would also contribute to tear-off resistance.

Here is a crop from the original photo to show how the lock holds the wire. I did not use the omega-shaped counterpart.
