Foggy - indeed. I maybe should have put more weight on the precursor, I was just trying to discuss what appears to have happened (we know what the wind was and we can see the results). Crosswind limits are complex, and in theory you can exceed what has been demonstrated by a test pilot - but if anything goes wrong then you are on your own. For that reason (and one of general common sense) I have never encountered any case of the limit being deliberately exceeded.

It will be interesting to see if anything is made public - mostly so that all other A320 series pilots can learn from other people's mistakes and avoid making them themselves.

There's a lot more on this here, but be careful because for every real pilot posting there are 2 flight sim idiots.
