hgt & gray52 - guys, please dont get me wrong, i'm not needlessly having a dig or poo pooing your mods, all of which as you say are tried and tested and more importantly, seem to be desirable to members of the forum.

Having been in the industry for over 10 years now, i've had the dubious opportunity to see many cars that have had a variety of 'modifications' of massively different qualities. You are quite right that only certain parts of the warranty should become invalidated at all and in general, your mods may make difference at all. Of course a workshop of any quality would be foolish to turn away work either.

I have however seen modifications on cars that have caused faults elsewhere in cars in areas that the layman would not have thought were linked. Parking sensors (non manufacturer parts) fitted to the front of a car that when activated caused a voltage drop across the whole system, ECU and all that was linked, causing error codes, stereo faults and knocked out the electric windows for instance. The customer who had them fitted to save a few £'s was obviously a bit put out when given a bill for the investigation work and the disconnection of his sensors to make all good.

If ANY modification can be attributed to have caused or been part of causing something to malfunction, then the manufacturer is within perfect rights to back out of the warranty.
