Also, the car didn't get a great review in Autoexpress (or one of the other car mags that I read), but the performance figures are quite compelling!

It was explained to me by the apprentice at the local Honda dealership's service depot that the 2.2 i-cdti was detuned so as not to detract from the percieved sportiness of the Type-R. Now, I know that a lot of 17yr olds are full of cr@p, but Honda apprentices spend lots of time being trained in Swindon, and having spoken to his manager, this young lad is getting top marks in all of his apprenticeship exams. He lives, eats, breathes and .....'s Honda, so I've no real reason to disbelieve him.

This suggestion is born out by the fact that so many people on the forum have had their car's remapped to 190bhp, 500nm torque. I mean, 138bhp from a modern 2.2 litre diesel is pretty weedy, right?

Having a remapped car myself, I can attest that it's quick, torquey, economical(ish), sporty, comfortable, practical, and most importantly, reliable. I've never had to miss a day's work because it didn't start, or because something fell off. Unlike my Golf MK5 2.0GT TDI, that I had previously. If you've got one of those on your list of cars to consider, I'd say scrub it out mate!

Hi Damian,

Thanks for replying to my post mate.

I wasn't aware of that recall on the Toyota engine, but will now try to find out a little more about it if I can. It is this type of information which is handy to know so that you can enquire about or avoid as necassary.
I have read it is the same engine as used in the Avensis but did not remember that the Lexus could also have been using it, should have done as Toyota & Lexus go together.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Honda engine is detuned like you say as with it being a 2.2 it is spec'd conservatively.
Your own car you running the Celtic Tuning chip yeah? It runs well and gives great performance looking at the figures in your signature.

I have looked into diesel performance chips/boxes, but haven't paid attention to what the Celtic option changes or adds. Do they reprogram your existing chip or is it a seperate box and then what is the effect on your warrenty for instance?

I'm steerign clear of Golfs & VW's in general as you appear to pay a lot of money for not a lot at the end of the day. Fords as well dont appeal.
I did look longingly at the Megane, again great engine but butt ugly rear end

If Peugeot had a more powerful diesel powerplant I possibly wouldn't be considering a change of car make, but then again variety is good.

Thanks for your reply.
