I am totally the same, look for somewhere to park where no one can or should hit you.
Thankfully not my civic but did have my first new car, Parked in open space at Tesco's. got back to car, still no-one next to me, GREAT.
Packed shopping, jumped into car. started engine, reversed .......... CRUNCH.

trolley pusher right behind car, could not see trolleys through mirror. Car scatched to buggery. NOT HAPPY. made quite a scene, got in car and booted hell out of it. NEVER AGAIN
