I have that feeling too but I also think it's tuned down a bit. Toyota has 170 hp 2.2 diesel for some time now. Probably 200 hp would be possible if you would give up economy altogether.
But keep it below 2000 RPM and resist using the turbo (I can't

) and you can get a pretty good MPG for such a big engine I think.
