I believe he may have been talking out of a puckered hole somewhere near two cheaks.........I know engines use oil, but 'high' oil consumption should not be a characteristic, my father has a 2005 (?) Range Rover 4.2, that uses virtually no oil, my car uses no oil (the level hasn't dropped in 6000 miles of hard work!), and I realise diesels use some oil, but I think his explanation lacks some reality.
