Loose Tweeters

For a little while now, I've been hearing a rattle (kind of a tick-tick) noise when hitting potholes or manhole covers.

I though originally it was the windscreen cowl, so did Munro's fix with the cushion tape, but the sound was still there.

However, I discovered last night that both tweeters were somewhat loose in their casing - if you put your thumb on them you could rotate them about 1 mm - they also rattled a bit if you tapped them.

So, I took both tweeter housings off, undid the cables, and removed the tweeters from the housing. I then wrapped some insulating tape around the edge of the tweeter mount so that when they were pushed back in they more of a tight fit. Certainly seems to have done the trick, as when driving through town tonight and deliberately seeking out manhole covers and small potholes there was no more rattly/ticking noise.

The place where I wrapped the tape is highlighted in green in the enclosed photo of the removed tweeter - not easy to photograph a black plastic thing sitting on a black seat, with black tape wrapped round it
