When the boot was fully open, the angle allowed for it to go onto the back seats as well. I'm going back to the dealer soon to get some mats fitted, so I will ask them about it then.

I had the same thing- the centre section of the rear lights was leaking and filling with water, and also leaking into the boot, which gradually became a swimming pool! The lights were replaced twice under warranty before it was sorted. I also had problems with the boot not opening, which I am sure was due to the water ingress.
