Thumbs down

fortuately the rev limiter as controlled by the ecu will cut the fuel & ignition but unfortuately it wont stop the engine from physically overevving or spinning faster than the redline ,the boffins at honda are aware of this & midway through production of the last civic type r they introduced an extra bit of software in the ecu that records a fault code if the engine has physically spun much faster than the redline.this results in valuable evidence when a warranty claims for a blown engines are submitted. The fault code tells them the engine has been overevved & because of this honda will not be paying for a replacement,so bear this in mind if you regularly bounce your engine on the rev limiter because it could end up being rather costly.

engine damage caused by an engine exceeding its maximum design limit is not a warrantable item. DTC 119-1
