The alarm for the car is actually the horn unit, a totally separate system. in the event of it being set off, it just sounds the horn.

I have to disagree. I tested a friends EX today and the alarm is a high pitch squeal coming out of the boot area. (It definately is not the horn as used by Fords). To test the car it needs to be left for 5 minutes after locking. Then just turning the key anti-clockwise a quarter of a turn is enough to set the alarm off. The door does not need to be opened.
It's a strange situation when the correctly programmed key cannot even go in the lock without setting off the alarm. Makes you wonder why they have a door lock at all.
It would appear then that the same loudspeaker is used for both sensors and alarm. Honda economy I suppose - except that they need to start using better quality speakers that actually work!
