Insurance companies go by the only factors that they can, statistics, PROVEN facts. The fact is that young male drivers from 17-25 are statistically more likely to wrap their car round something/speed/damage etc. If he has got loads of advanced certificates etc then he will tell the insurance company this (hopefully) and they will apply the relevant discounts BUT that still doesnt stop the 'peer pressure' or 'red mist' setting in.
Excatly. I work with a woman who says her son is a excellent driver he's only 24 and has managed to write off 3 cars all by himself! Even having things like Pass Plus etc doesn't show that you can handle a car like the Type R as many people more than likely get thier pass plus in a Micra and thats a bit of a difference from a CTR.

I know that when I went to get my insurance some companies asked what experiance I had in driving performance and big engine cars. I could list a Cooper S I had driven for 6 years, a 520 BMW, a 530 BMW and a M3 that I was driving at the time. That only brought it down by about £300 on a way off premium.
