If you drove both you will find the VXR a flying machine which cant fail to put a smile on your face but once the "need for speed" has worn off your driving an Astra... all be it a fast astra. The civic diesel is a great pocket rocket but does'nt actually try to be anything more than a civic diesel.
I think the decision is easy...... If you want a car which is fast buy the astra....
If you want a car that is an all round quality drive and one you will want to drive 2 years on then choose the civic....
