for those of us who have been driving since petrol was only a little over a pound
per gallon, todays prices are already silly
On a seperate, but related note - this is one of the reasons we now buy in litres rather than gallons.
Back in the day, when looking for cheap petrol, you probably wouldn't bother to avoid the Shell garage that was 2p per gallon more expensive than the Texaco one down the road.
These days, a 2p per litre difference doesn't look
too bad either, but is actually 10p per gallon - more than enough to make you drive past -
if you work it out as gallons.
