Using unions for personal matters and to help individuals is one thing, but to use the public as pawns in your battles IMO is unacceptable.

Sorry, but the things unions are asking for like Final Salary Pensions are not available to joe public, like everyone else, if you don't like your job or conditions, vote with your feet, rather than using the public.
