Yeh I had to ditch mine after I got it colour coded!
I have left them in to get done as well but I might just end up doing without them, I'll see how it looks!
I must say though I have definitly noticed more dirt along the side of the car and particuarly on the door sills after having taken the mud flaps off! So they do have some function, as well as the early warning system
