Turns out I wasn't.
HOWEVER: I figured that because the TS is attached to the Circuit board on this model key and was free floating on the last one that there was a good chance that the Transponder is actually programmed my one of the other chips.
Based on this I jumped on ebay and bought a 2nd hand (already cut) key off some bloke and went at it again - having bought a smaller soldering iron.
I was right - transponder from a key that has nothing to do with my car - soldered to my remote key electronics - works a treat.
The 2nd hand key cost me £8... Much cheaper than a new key from Honda - and now I have a spare battery as well.

PS: the code printed on the TS of the key I bought was NOT the same as the one on my original - still worked.
