My Dad just recently got rid of a 1.8 Zetec Mondeo, and I don't recall anything going wrong with the engine in 7 years and 116,000 miles. However, there was once a broken suspension spring, the rear sub frame has been replaced and it was heavy on brakes.
He's just bought a Skoda Superb Edition 100, and that is a fantastic car. It's the 1.9 130PD, mega efficient, quiet and LOADS of space.
