I went out to the mid east for a few months at start of year with diesel at about 96ppl and came back to find out diesel was now 116ppl and my car tax would be going up to £310 (for my old audi). As a result the cost of food had shot up due to these rises. The government can quite easily adjust the duty or VAT imposed and they'd still be getting the same tax revenue as when diesel was 96ppl. As for the road tax jumping 50% I wouldn't mind so much if they actually used the revenue to repair the effing roads but its almost not worth trying to avoid the potholes as there's to many.
As for using public transport to get to work the council's don't seem to do routes to military camps. Especially when you have to travel 40+ miles and do random shifts and finish times so I'm tied to my car.
As I do get fuel allowance I shouldn't be that bothered but it just infuriates me that the government would rather rake in the extra tax than help cut the ever increasing tax burden on the people of this country.
Ahhh feels better after that rant.
