That's only 4 years.

You could be right:

Gen 1 - 1973 > 1979
Gen 2 - 1980 > 1983
Gen 3 - 1984 > 1987
Gen 4 - 1988 > 1991
Gen 5 - 1992 > 1995
Gen 6 - 1996 > 2000
Gen 7 - 2001 > 2005
Gen 8 - 2006 > Present

They do seem quite short lifespans compared to other manufacturers.
