Stick for a couple of years at least....I found my rear number plate from my Mini on the deck after about 3 years of ownership. Was on with sticky pads and as I washed the car every weekend (like I currently do) it eventually came off
ended up screwing them on - made a huge difference when taking the rear plate off to change it back to the original one for the new owner. However I do agree that if you use double sided tape like carpet tape it sticks like hell and it takes some doing to get it off!
