I would be scared to do that for two reasons:

1) The tyre is already 7 years old, I know it is in the boot, but rubber must degrade sometime. So if you keep your car for 4 years, it will be 11 years old by then. The are at a higher pressure because they are thinner.

2) Your insurance co may still disagree that it is suitable.

It was hard enough for me to buy a spare in the first place (search for my rants about space savers!!) so at least get the correct one.

This is a safety item after all......
