You get what you pay for

About 3 years ago I was insured with the Halifax and when involved in an accident I just informed the insurance company and they delt with everything from arranging the repair, the hire car and the dispute - phoned me up once in a while for more information or to let me know how things were getting on. (basically they were interested in recovering any loses)

Around the same time, the better half had an accident on the motorway where are car rear ended her (mmmm - no puns). She had to arrange repairs, the insurance company would arrange a hire car but she would have to pay for it until the dispute was settled (yes the other driver said she was to blame - even though he hit her from behind) and she had to keep chasing the insurance company - her insurance company wanted a knock-4-knock because it was easy for them. She didn't want that, obviously, so she had to insist the insurance company took it further - she had to supply a solicitor and instigate legal proceeding until eventually the other guys insurance backed down - basically admitting liability.

The only difference is that she has me as a second driver and I have her - she pays £100 less than me.

So like has already been said - you don't know how good your insurance company are until you have an accident - especially if its not your fault.
