The lever operates the locking button correctly but the Filler Cap itself remains shut.
To get over the problem of constantly returning to the cabin to pull the lever, I held the lever 'open' with a duster. Then the Cap itself can be easily coaxed open.
Not the permanent solution, but an interim answer to the embarassing problem.

First the
HFT microphone bodge. Now the Fuel filler bodge. Add Honda's pre-fitted tyre gunk bodge and you really wonder whatever happened to Honda's build quality reputation.
