In Turkey, the plumbers developed a convention.. We have been in metric system throughout our whole lives, but when they define a pipe in inches, it means that the ends of the pipes are threaded. When they call it with a metric diameter, it means that the ends are plain!

Simply nonsense but it is a way of communication among plumbers..
With miles, everything is "nearer" but takes the same time to travel!
