It does look like this connector (but is has been 3 months..)
Here also a drawing from the connector signals (it does look like an 6 pin connector...).
The original camera works at 7V (+/-2V)
I suppose if you put the car in reverse the VCC ouputs 7V, this 7V returns from the camera into Camera detection > turning on the LCD for the camera. Please try to insert 12V using 1K resistor (to prevent damage) into the camera detection input, this could turn on the LCD. THIS IS MY THEORY, I DID NOT TEST THIS. This is how I would design this.
This method prevents for the LCD going ON if you put into reverse without a camera attached. The camera signal is a standard composite colour signal 1Vpp / 75ohm. Good luck.
