The only surefire way to get rid of watermarks is to wash the car with shampoo, good rinse, then wipe away the droplets of water before they dry. Especially if your rinse water is from the tap in a hard water area.
This is where I find the Vileda Window Cloth ideal, I can squeeze more water out of it than a synthetic chamois. Just remember not to work the cloth too hard now that the paints are water based. Your not looking to completely dry the car with the cloth but just remove the beads of water that cause the spots when they dry.
When applying polish, work it in otherwise if you do have any water spots the polish will put a coat over them and then you will have difficulty removing them.
