This is a well known problem on the Civic, the throttle response in some situations is not smooth and it irritated the hell out of me when I first got my 1.8EX - even took it to the dealer who said no fault found. After a few weeks of driving I got used to it but sometimes when pulling away it will hesitate on the throttle. Also when changing gear the engine will rev in between changes of you dont get the balance of throttle and clutch quite right. All to do with the drive-by-wire throttle. Putting all that aside, the engine is superb and very economical, I am averaging over 40mpg on a mix of town and motorway driving, I dont thrash it but I dont sit around either - enjoy
