running in

Picked up my civic yesterday 2.2 i-ctdi es and asked about running the car in because i had seen a post on here about not exceeding 3500 rpm for the first 1000 mile and then 4500 rpm for another 1000 miles and so on until it was safe , but the exact advice from my dealer was .drive it as normal until 200 mile then take it on the bypass and give it a blast and if you drive a diesel slowly for too long you end up with a slow car and he used their courtesy cars as an example said the new one was a lot faster than the old one because this had been done. Any body else had similar advice bit confused as this is my first diesel , apparently its because the engines are run for about 500 mile on test. thanks
