As a Honda worker - loads of me mates have Civics. Best consumption I've heard quoted is 65mpg - creeping behind lorries up the motorway at 55mph - this is with a brand new engine mind - not run in yet. Most achieve about 55 - 60mpg on a steady run.
I have a CRV diesel (same 2.2 engine) - 38 round town, 52 on a steady run.
