The secret with stone chips is not to try and fill the chip in one go with a single blob of paint.

Use a tiny paint brush and put the smallest amount in you can and let it dry, then do it again, slowly building it up.

Then when it is just proud of the surface cut it back with some mild abrasive taking care not to rub the surrounding area too much.

I've used Brasso on a thin single layer cloth wrapped round a lolly stick with good effect.
