Honda MusicLink / iPod connector - now discontinued?

I ordered my Honda MusicLink prior to buying my Civic a few weeks back, and it was finally fitted today. I've not used it much other than random play and playing the existing iPod playlist, but the sound quality is - as I would expect - excellent.

However, usability wise, I'm finding it very poor indeed. I'm disappointed Honda even released such an unfriendly system. My dealer didn't provide a manual, but thankfully already had a copy from Lozza. Without it, it would have been a major struggle.

Tonight I've been Googling and now have another version of the manual, that suggests I should also have received a TTS (Text To Speech) CD. I think this is a US manual, as it mentions the XM radio. Perhaps we don't get the TTS software in the UK?

The TTS software seems to be the only way of being able to (albeit in a long winded way) selecting music by Artist/Album/Genre etc. If I'm feeling brave at the weekend, I might try installing the TTS software. In the absence of a CD this can be downloaded from http://musiclink.honda.com/Down_TTS.html

Did anyone else get a TTS CD or downloaded the software and had any success?

My Googling tonight also came up with http://www.8thcivic.com/forums/showthread.php?t=36596, from which I'll quote the following...

Re: Honda MusicLink Discontinued

Parts Managers,

Honda MusicLink P/N 08A28-1H1-101A will be discontinued beginning April 16th, 2007.

Honda will launch a new iPod adapter with upgraded software for 2008 model year that will replace the discontinued Honda MusicLink adapter.
It won't help me and others who already have the MusicLink, but let's hope the replacement will offer better ease of use. Honda's withdrawal of the old unit prior to the introduction of the new suggests to me they are acknowledging how terrible the unit is.
