I am now waiting for an appointment at the dealer with the factory engineers, apparently they are brining a new strut with them, I am told they have had a few complaints about this problem and want to come and see for themselves with the strut still on the car.
Guess there are some advantages to living near the factory.
I will try to find out more and let you know what is said.
The only thing that will pull these bump stops off as far as I can see is if the strut rebound limits are wrong and it extends too far, then the gaiter will strech and pull the stop off its mounts, but what do I know I am just an engineer.
