I would go and test drive them both as its largely down to personal taste and I suppose it depends on what sort of driving you are doing motorway or country roads. We had a TDi golf at work and you cant beat it for performance, but I just love the high reving vtec motor, and the harder ride of the type s, so thats what I went for.
Have you compared the different tax bands for the 2.2 and 1.8?
