The system is designed to do that, imagine making a right turn into a side road, as you complete the manouvre the wheel is turning left, there is a little mechanical device which cancels the signal, no different to indicating right and actually turning left.

I guess the important bit is to make sure you are indicating once on the roundabout,having your indicator cancelled when turning left on to it, a pain as it is, is not that much of an issueal.
